The Spirit of Seva & Langar
In Sikhi, devotion is not confined to hymns alone; it is lived by feeding the hungry, sweeping the threshold, and humbling the ego in selfless service to humanity.
The Three Dimensions of Service
Instituted by the Sikh Gurus, true seva encompasses physical labor, pure consciousness, and honest resources shared with all.
Tan (Physical Service)
Preparing food, rolling chapatis, stirring cauldrons of dal, washing dishes, sweeping floors, and serving guests at the Joda Ghar shoe counter with humble hands.
Man (Mental / Spiritual Service)
Deep devotional Simran, reading Gurbani Santhiya, meditating upon the Divine Name, teaching children Gurmukhi, and offering mental solace to families in grief.
Dhan (Material Contribution)
Sharing the fruits of one's honest labor (Dasvandh) by providing raw pantry staples, flour, lentils, building materials, or monetary contributions.
Guru Ka Langar: Everyone Sits Together in Pangat
Langar was instituted by Guru Nanak Dev Ji and nurtured with profound motherly care by Mata Khivi Ji. It overturned ancient caste stratifications by mandating that high and low, prince and beggar, sit upon the same cloth on the floor (Pangat) to eat identical food.
At Gurudwara Kalgidhar Singh Sabha, fresh, nutritious sanctified vegetarian meals are prepared daily in our community kitchen. Whether you arrive in a suit or working overalls, you are welcomed as an honored guest of the Guru.
Pantry Raw Grocery Requirements
Devotees wishing to contribute raw provisions for the community Langar may donate these essential staples:
